The Gifted Animal Placement program tests shelter dogs

for a natural ability to perform in a civil service job, such as drug or bomb detection,wildlife detection, Search & Rescue,Assistance, etc .
Currently government trainers for detection work, service work, police or law enforcement related work have to go to the shelters to identify animals that to the general pet owner is seemingly less attractive but hold valuable qualities for that of working dogs. Often before they can make it to the shelters these dogs have already been killed.

The GAP program certifies diagnosticians to identify these dogs on a daily basis within the shelter settings to close the GAP between government agencies and the death row these dogs face. many of the qualified dogs, would not make the best family pet because of their excessive prey & hunt drive. The program allows volunteer diagnosticians or shelter staff to learn how to identify these animals and then notify trainers of particular dogs before it is too late.
