Daily Doggy Exercise

The importance of daily exercise for your dog cannot be underestimated. No matter if your dog is a small Chihuahua or a Great Dane, daily exercise is a must and should not be neglected by a conscientious and responsible owner.

We often hear about good dogs gone bad, aggression slowly increasing in dogs that were perfect before. We hear about destructive behavior, digging, chewing and destroying everything in sight. In most cases this is a combination of two things:
1. Lack of daily exercise
2. Lack of leadership by the owner

There are several ways you can help your dog and you stay balanced. Even humans enjoy and benefit from daily exercise. Aside from the physical aspects, this daily exercise routing will help you establish your leadership, drain excess energy from your dog and help you create a bond between you and your dog that will trickle into other aspects of your life.

Here are some simple examples you can choose:

1. RUN: Go running with your dog daily- no special equipment will be needed.

2. BIKE-RIDE: Take your dog on a bike ride- be sure to be safe. We recommend a special attachment for bicycles that train your dog to run properly next to you. This attachment is no more than $40 and can be purchased online at www.walkydogusa.com
-it's entirely worth the investment and allows you to spend lots of time in fresh air. Be sure to start your dog off with 1/2- 1 miles a day and check paws for injuries.

3. SWIM: If you have a pool, let your dog swim laps - even better join him. Make sure to direct him to swim in a particular direction and not just all over the place for fun.

4. HIKE: If you enjoy hiking, take your dog, some extra water and a collapsible water-bucket and enjoy the closeness this will build between you and your dog. be sure to keep your dog leashed unless you are absolutely certain he won't chase after wild-life.

5. TREADMILL: If the weather is bad or you absolutely do not have the opportunity to go outside daily for walks, teach your dog to run on the treadmill. It takes little time and is a great way to still satisfy the exercise requirement of any dog, big or small. We do believe the actual walk itself is more beneficial because it creates bonding time, but between nothing and treadmill it certainly is better.
